Screams of ‘viva’, waves and whistling were heard outside the Ventersdorp Magistrate’s Court as one of the suspects in the Eugene Terre’Blanche murder trial was taken away by the police.

The suspect came out of the building bare footed with his head covered with a jacket.

He was quickly bundled into a police inyala while men whistled and women ululated, clapped and cheered behind the police car as it drove off. NPA head Menzi Simelane was expected to address the media afterwards.

This breaking news flash was supplied exclusively to by the news desk at our sister title, The Star.

A bloodied tooth ripped out. A bloodstained wooden bed-frame. A filthy carpet. Crime-scene tape fluttering in the breeze.

These are some of the reminders of AWB leader Eugene Terre’Blanche’s last moments.

Yesterday, The Star visited the small farmhouse where he was killed on Saturday evening. Terre’Blanche lived in Ventersdorp, North West, with his family, but sometimes stayed overnight on the farm where he died.

Two farmworkers were arrested within hours of his death after handing themselves over to police for a killing apparently sparked by a pay dispute.

At the gate to Witrandjiesfontein farm, well-wishers placed flowers and messages of sympathy. They trickled to the farm gate clutching flowers to leave their mementoes.

Above the flowers, a placard read: “Stop Malema, stop the murders, Viva ET. God help us”.

Two supporters hugged each other and cried when they arrived at the farmhouse. The modest, run-down farmhouse had little in it. The walls were bare.

A pair of peacocks perched on the veranda railing, a sheet of plywood covered the broken front window and a stone lion “guarded” the house. Inside, an animal skin lay on the floor of a bathroom with camouflage-brown walls.

The mattress was gone from the single wooden bed in the room where Terre’Blanche had been bludgeoned, but bloodstains remained at the head of the bed base. On the stained carpet near the bed lay the bloodied tooth.

“We were expecting him back home that night. He had gone to the farm to make sure that everything was fine,” Terre’Blanche’s daughter Bea said. “We were shocked when a family friend and a pastor broke the news to us.”

As an only child, she was very close to her father. “He was strong-willed, determined and loving.”

Police prevented her from going into the house until her father’s body had been removed. She was told he had been found with one of the murder weapons lying on top of him.

Police previously said they had seized a knobkerrie and a panga.

Bea said her father had been unable to pay his workers because it was the Easter weekend and he could not get to the bank.

“He was not refusing to pay them. That’s not true,” she said.

She said that when she heard about the murder, she suspected farmworkers had killed him as it wasn’t easy to get onto the farm. “I knew it was easier if it’s people who worked there.”

She said her father had good relations with his workers. “He treated them like he would like to be treated – as human beings.”

She didn’t know the arrested workers well. The pair, a 15-year-old and a 28-year-old, were due to appear in court in Ventersdorp today on a charge of murder.

Yesterday, AP reported that the mother of the 15-year-old said from her home in Tshing township in Ventersdorp: “My son admitted that they did the killing.”

She said she had spoken to the teenager at the Ventersdorp police station after the pair had turned themselves in. She may not be named to protect the identity of her son as he is a minor.

She said that when her son and his co-worker asked Terre’Blanche for their money, he told them to first bring in the cows. After they had brought in the cows, they again asked for their money, which he then refused to give them.

The older worker then went to a storeroom. “He came back with an iron rod. He started hitting Terre’Blanche, with four blows to the head. Then my son says he took the iron rod and hit him with three blows,” the mother said.

The mother’s account of only one murder weapon – an iron rod – did not fit police reports of the knobkerrie and panga as the weapons.

AWB secretary-general Andre Visagie told AP that Terre’Blanche was bludgeoned so badly, he was barely recognisable, and described a gory murder scene indicative of great rage.

“There was blood all over the place, pools on the mattress, the pillow, the floor, and splatters on the walls and ceiling.”

Yesterday, the atmosphere remained tense in Ventersdorp. AWB members had planned to march, but then decided against it.

The organisation retracted its earlier threat to avenge Terre’Blanche’s murder. AWB commander Pieter Steyn said the statements about vengeance were made “in the heat of the moment”, because people were very angry about the murder.

“We have asked our members to refrain from attacks and racial remarks. There’s going to be no parade, no flags, no political speeches,” he said. – Additional reporting by AP and Staff Reporters

Polisieklopjagte op Afrikaners op pad!

Posted in Uncategorized on 7 April, 2010 by rudiprinsloo

Woensdag, 07 April 2010 09:03 Praag

* om aan die buiteland te demonstreer dat die ANC steeds “in beheer” van die land verkeer en in staat is om enige verset in die kiem te smoor;
* om Afrikaners te intimideer om enige voorbereidings tot verset, opstand of selfverdediging te laat vaar.

Farmer union: Terre’Blanche murder political

Posted in Uncategorized on 7 April, 2010 by rudiprinsloo

2010-04-06 22:33

Johannesburg – The murder of Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging (AWB) leader Eugene Terre’Blanche was no ordinary crime, but a political murder, “probably involving government”, the agricultural union TAU-SA said on Tuesday.

“The cruelty and barbaric actions which is evident during such murders, was repeated in the case of Mr Terre’Blanche, and does not relate to the alleged motive,” said TAU-SA president Ben Marais.

The situation in South Africa was much worse than the general perception and called for drastic intervention, he said.

“If we look at the course of events during the previous weeks, an upsetting pattern has materialised in which the murder of Mr Eugene Terre’Blanche is but one incident.

“We are afraid that this is not the end unless drastic intervention by government or by the citizens themselves takes place.

“Racial polarisation is a reality, and the trigger for further conflict lies in the hands of the ANC Youth League and its radical leader (Julius Malema), who apparently cannot be called to order, responsibility and discipline by the ruling party.”

Marais said that farm killings had increased in recent weeks, nationalisation of agricultural land was on the agenda, and the “inflammatory song “shoot the boer” had made an appearance.

“Finally a well-known leader was murdered,” he said.

Terre’Blanche was murdered on his Ventersdorp farm on Saturday, allegedly by two farm workers, over a labour dispute.

The two, a 15-year-old and a 27-year-old, appeared in the Ventersdorp Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

“TAU-SA is tired of the fact that an environment is deliberately created to discredit farmers.

“Notice was taken that during the protests at the Ventersdorp court hearing, once again allegations were made against the farmers, which creates a climate for radical elements to justify similar brutal attacks.

“TAU-SA rejects statements that farmers treat their workers badly.”

Workers ‘should seek better treatment’

If workers felt they were being badly treated, there were sufficient statutory institutions they could approach for help and where their grievances would be considered and examined.

Workers could also leave those farms to seek better treatment, accommodation, salary and fringe benefits elsewhere, Marais said.

“Perhaps the time has now come to make a serious appeal to farmers to reduce their workforce and to mechanise for the sake of security and peace of mind.

“Since the murder of Mr Terre’Blanche, TAU-SA noted that an increasing number of cases appeared reflecting labour related issues.

“Farmers should be mindful that it seems as if this is the latest cause for disputes declared.”

Marais said the union was tired of the ongoing, deliberate efforts to transform criminals “to appear to be the heroes and to project farmers as criminals”.

“We cannot accept this any longer,” he said.

“The fact is that the ANC has lost control of itself and of the country.

“What is taking place in the country is nothing less than armed propaganda for a liberation that we thought was in place 16 years ago.”

Marais called on farmers to tighten their security.

“What we can do right now, is to repeat what we’ve said before, namely that neighbourhood and farm watches should be activated as a matter of urgency. We believe that we are only facing the beginning of bigger problems.”

Spike in race tensions – institute

Posted in Uncategorized on 7 April, 2010 by rudiprinsloo

2010-04-06 17:22

Cape Town – The ANC Youth League’s revival of the “shoot the boer” slogan may have played a role in the murder of AWB leader Eugene Terre’Blanche, the South African Institute for Race Relations (SAIRR) said on Tuesday.

“Racial tensions in the country appear to have increased significantly in recent weeks. This appears to be chiefly as a result of incitement by the ruling African National Congress to ‘shoot and kill’ the Afrikaner ethnic minority in the country,” SAIIR deputy CEO Frans Cronje said in a statement.

He said not all crime in the country could be categorised as non-political and accused the ruling party of heightening tensions as it sought to dissimulate its failures by blaming social inequality on white South Africans.

Law, order largely collapsed

“In an environment where law and order has largely collapsed the consequences of incitement by political leaders to commit murder must be taken seriously.”

Cronje said the ANC had failed to meet the expectations of the black majority and “increasingly appears to be seeking to shift the blame for its delivery failures onto the small white ethnic minority”.

“Here parallels may be read to the behaviour of Zanu-PF in Zimbabwe when that party realised that its political future was in peril. The ANC Youth League’s recent visit to Zanu-PF, which saw it endorse that party’s ruinous polices, are pertinent here.”

“In such an environment it is plausible to consider that the ANC’s exhortations to violence may be a contributing factor to the killing of Mr Terre’Blanche.”

Possible links

He dismissed the ANC leadership’s refusal to entertain questions about a possible link between ANC youth leader Julius Malema’s statements and Terre’Blanche’s brutal murder as “ridiculous”.

“Should evidence be led that the two young men acted with what they understood to be the tacit backing of the ANC, and a causal link between their actions and incitement by the ANC be established, then the possibility of charging the ANC’s senior leadership in connection to the murder arises.”

“Equally plausible is that the Terre’Blanche family and the Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging could bring a civil suit against the ANC and the government.”

Martyr risk

Cronje warned that Terre’Blanche’s brutal killing, allegedly by two disgruntled farm workers, risked turning him into a martyr and further polarising South Africa.

“It is possible that the killing of Mr Terre’Blanche will greatly strengthen the hand of a new hardened right-wing in South Africa.

“In life Mr Terre’Blanche attracted a small, uninfluential, and extremist following. He will not be mourned for what he stood for.”

“However, in death he may come to represent the experiences of scores of minority groups in the country who perceive themselves as being on the receiving end of racist and now also violent abuse from the ANC.”

“In effect therefore, Mr Terre’Blanche may be seen as having been martyred for a minority cause in the country.”

AWB seeks its own ‘volkstaat’

Posted in Uncategorized on 7 April, 2010 by rudiprinsloo

Ventersdorp – The Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging (AWB) wants a piece of land for its people to govern and call their own, a spokesperson said in Ventersdorp on Tuesday.

“All we want is a piece of land in South Africa where we can settle ourselves and call it our own and govern ourselves with our religion… and our own laws,” said organisation leader Pieter Steyn.

“We want a volkstaat, according to our own way and we don’t want any Nigerians, drug lords, rapists, murderers or anyone else there… that’s all we want,” he said.

Steyn was speaking outside the Ventersdorp Magistrate’s Court where the alleged killers of AWB leader Eugene Terre’Blanche would appear.

He said, following a tense confrontation between blacks and whites outside the court, that emotions were high but the organisation had told their members to keep calm.

He said a stand-off between the two groups in which police were forced to intervene was caused by a woman who was not an AWB member.

“Emotions are high right now, people are angry and cross but it is normal, we have requested our members to keep cool and calm and refrain from making racial remarks.”

He said AWB members were fearful and that the black group were “playing politics” and were there to “agitate” them.

Police erected a razor wire fence between the two groups after the altercation.

Terre’Blanche-moordverdagtes geprys

“Hierdie seuns was braaf.

“Hy was ‘n ander mens. Hy was baie stil.”

Terre’Blanche-moord glo ‘polities gemotiveerd’

Posted in Uncategorized on 7 April, 2010 by rudiprinsloo

2010-04-07 05:46

Volgens kapt. Adéle Myburgh, polisiewoordvoerder, is dr.

Terre’Blanche was plaasmoord nr. 3368

Posted in Uncategorized on 7 April, 2010 by rudiprinsloo

Liesl Peyper, Die Burger

ET is sonder broek gelos

Marida Fitzpatrick

Ventersdorp. – Mnr.

“My kliënt lyk sleg en is erg geskud.”

“Hulle is ons helde,” het me. Tebogo Tshepo (25) uitgeroep.

Ek is baie kwaad.

Tog kon hy baie maklik baie snaaks wees.

From one genocide to the next

Mr John Minto,

You are a true activist in every sense of the word. You have dedicated your life to the causes you believe in, and I for one can tell from observation, that you are truly passionate about your beliefs and that you work tirelessly to uplift the groups and people that you support. This is the mark of a real man and I respect you for that. Interestingly enough, both friends and enemies of the late Eugene Terre’blanche have attributed the same qualities to him.

Having been at the forefront of the anti-apartheid struggle movement in New Zealand since the early days, it is no wonder that New Zealanders turn to you for moral guidance whenever political and social events in South Africa draw the attention of the international media.

It is for the above reasons that I am writing this letter to you because I believe that it places a great responsibility on you to give New Zealanders an accurate and balanced report. What follows are some undiluted facts about the current dire situation in South Africa and around the murder of Eugene Terre’blanche.

1) The youth leader of the ruling ANC party, Julius Malema, has been, and continues to promote, extreme hatred amongst his followers against the already marginalised Afrikaner minority by his public speeches and the singing of controversial songs which include the words “Kill the Boer”.

2) The ANC leadership refuses to condemn these actions, and are actively trying to overturn a court ruling banning the song.

3) As a very small minority, the Afrikaners have no means of defence as they have been largely disarmed and have no political influence any more.

4) Already, well over three thousand farmers (3000) have been brutally murdered, some even tortured on their farms. Gregory Stanton of Genocide Watch has warned that this situation is reaching genocidal proportions due to the extreme brutality of the attacks and dehumanization of the victims. Zimbabwe pales in comparison.

5) Beyond farm murders, it is estimated that over 90 000 white women have been raped and over 45 000 white men, women and children have been murdered by black Africans in South Africa. The ANC with its huge influence is downplaying these statistics by blanket labelling them as ordinary crimes. (These numbers would not be tolerated in any other country in the world, especially when the victims are all members of a minority and the perpetrators members of a different race and majority group).

6) The Afrikaner farming community consists of less than 30 000 (used to be 60 000) people whereas the entire Afrikaner population consists of less than three million. The ruling ANC commands well over thirty million people. New Zealanders are acutely aware of the exodus of Afrikaners from the land they occupied for three hundred and fifty years, as many have reluctantly chosen New Zealand as their new home.

7) Julius Malema has just visited Zimbabwe and Robert Mugabe to discuss their plans to nationalise South African mines and farm land. They are discussing ways to expedite their plans based on the Zimbabwe model.

8) Jacob Zuma, the president of South Africa is known for fanning the flames of racial hatred amongst his followers with his own song titled “Bring me my machine gun”.

9) White farmers murdering black workers does happen but is extremely rare. The murder rate of white farmers in South Africa is an astounding 300 per 100 000 per year. In this climate, farmers are more afraid of their workers than their workers are of them. Also, one of the biggest issues between farmers and farm workers is the fact that illegal immigrants will work for much less than local workers. This is the result of the 10 000 illegals coming into South Africa each week because the ANC government is not in control of the borders any more. So the pertinent question is: Is it fair to only blame white farmers for wage disputes?

10) The South African police often arrest white farmers when it is clear that they have simply defended themselves and their families from attack. Recently a young white farmer in his twenties was put in jail over night with hardened criminals because he defended himself with his bare hands against a person trying to stab him with a knife on his own farm.

11) You have ANC officials and trade unions turning up at courts in their official capacity, where there may be some or other dispute, sometimes even a farm murder trial where the victim was white, where they then proceed to promote extreme racial tension by blaming the farmers for everything, even making false accusations and chanting and singing these “struggle songs”. Aren’t leaders supposed to calm people down and urge them to let the law run its course?

12) Granted, more black people are murdered (by other blacks) in South Africa in sheer numbers, but this cannot be used as a means to excuse the brutal black on white murders being committed against Afrikaners of all ages. The perpetrators of the brutal murders against Afrikaners are almost exclusively black so there is a very real racial element to it that should not be down played. Facts are not always politically correct.

13) For almost a decade now, there has been growing unrest amongst black Africans as they feel, correctly, that the ANC has not delivered on its election promises of housing and service delivery etc. Many are saying they were better off under apartheid. The ANC government has responded to this threat to their position of power by blaming everything that is wrong, and all their mistakes and broken promises on the voiceless Afrikaner minority who cannot defend themselves. I should point out that the Afrikaners are no longer involved in the running of the country at any level.

14) The perception that all blacks are poor and all Afrikaners are rich no longer applies. There are close to a million extremely poor Afrikaners, and the ultra rich and middle class amongst blacks is increasing every day. People who claim to only fight for the needs of the poor should consider that the Afrikaner poor are now the most marginalized because the government of South Africa has indicated that the poor blacks are their first priority. Ironically the poor whites are not benefiting from affirmative action.

So here you have a defenceless, marginalised minority, the Afrikaners, a third of them living in abject poverty in squatter camps, being constantly demonised and threatened by an official ruling political party who has a support base of over 30 million people. The disarmed Afrikaner minority does not pose any threat to the overwhelming majority ANC who posses all political and military power in the country.

Times have truly changed in South Africa. The Afrikaners are now the vulnerable group with no real means, political or otherwise to defend themselves. The ANC are now the ruling party and they are openly encouraging violence against the Afrikaner minority.

So, the real question is, which group is most at risk in the current situation in South Africa, if hostilities were to break out? The world needs to take heed of this and carefully measure their (unbalanced) criticism to avoid a genocide from occurring in South Africa. The current racial tension is the highest it has ever been in the history of South Africa, and if things get out of hand the world may be forced to confront the fact that their approach to vilify a small defenceless minority may have contributed to the genocide perpetrated against them.

Mr. Minto, as an Afrikaner living in New Zealand, I urge you to keep an open mind and be aware that things can explode at any moment in South Africa and to realise that what you say can make a difference. Simply believing that the farmers are to blame for everything that goes wrong in the above outlined situation is simply not rational.

To my knowledge, there is now approximately 100 000 South Africans living in New Zealand. According to New Zealand and Australian research they are the most successful immigrants to both countries and integrate very well. With our close history, starting with your participation in the Anglo Boer War and the genocide of Afrikaners in the New Zealand supported British concentration camps, where 27 000 Afrikaner women and children died, New Zealand has a moral obligation to assist in preventing such an event from happening again in South Africa. Wouldn’t you want to be on the right side this time round?

Lastly, it is inaccurate for anybody to proclaim that South Africa will be another Zimbabwe. No, South Africa will make Zimbabwe look like West Auckland on a good day.

Oh yes, I am also pleased to hear that you have recently visited South Africa for the first time in your life. Congratulations! I hope you had a great time and plan to return for another visit some time soon.

From one genocide to the next?

‘n Ooreenkoms tussen Eugene Terre’Blanche en John F Kennedy se moorde?

Posted in Uncategorized on 5 April, 2010 by rudiprinsloo

Julius sing wéér in Harare

‘Blatant uittartend en uiters minagtend.”

So is mnr.

Hy leer by die beste.”

Malema lauds Bob, says SA will copy Zim’s land seizures

POWER BROKER: Julius Malema has been urged to uphold the culture of accountability by explaining how he got rich so fast Picture: JAMES OATWAY

Apr 4, 2010 7:41 AM | By Sunday Times

ANC Youth League President Julius Malema yesterday endorsed Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe’s economic policies – and threatened to import them to South Africa and to nationalise white-owned farms and mines.

In a fiery speech at a netball complex in Harare’s Mbare township, Malema told a cheering 2000-strong crowd of Zanu-PF youths that, after his visit to Zimbabwe he was going to intensify his campaign for the confiscation of farms and mines in South Africa.

“In SA we are just starting. Here in Zimbabwe you are already very far. The land question has been addressed. We are very happy that today you can account for more than 300000 new farmers against the 4000 who used to dominate agriculture. We hear you are now going straight to the mines. That’s what we are going to be doing in South Africa,” Malema said amid cheers.

“We want the mines. They have been exploiting our minerals for a long time. Now it’s our turn to also enjoy from these minerals. They are so bright, they are colourful, we refer to them as white people, maybe their colour came as a result of exploiting our minerals and perhaps if some of us can get opportunities in these minerals we can develop some nice colour like them.”

Only five months ago, Malema said Mugabe should go – but yesterday he endorsed the Zimbabwean ruler, whose government has killed thousands of those opposed to Zanu-PF rule and overseen the destruction of the economy through land seizures.

Malema meets Mugabe tomorrow for talks before returning home. Today, he will visit farms and mines in a move calculated to fuel his campaign for nationalisation in South Africa.

Malema – who was introduced at the rally as a “young revolutionary icon” – said Mugabe was a hero in the mould of former Cuban leader Fidel Castro and his successor, brother Raul, because he was “not afraid of imperialists”.

He also paid tribute to South African President Jacob Zuma, former president Nelson Mandela and Mandela’s former wife Winnie – while lambasting Zimbabwean Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, whom he described as an ally of “imperialists”.

The youth league leader’s attack on Tsvangirai could compromise Zuma’s mediation efforts in continuing talks between Mugabe and Tsvangirai on a unity government.

“We salute President Mugabe for standing firm against imperialists. The reason why they want him to go is because he has started attending to real issues,” Malema said.

“To them he can stay in power for 100 years as long as he doesn’t talk about the economy and addressing real issues.”

In November, Malema said Mugabe must go. “He must step down – we need a new president in Zim,” he said at the time.

“Zanu-PF is not the problem, the problem is the old man who is refusing to leave power,” Malema said.

“And I don’t know why the youth of that country are not taking him on.”

However, yesterday Malema said that Mugabe was a hero.

He said Mugabe and Zuma, together with the ANC and Zanu-PF, had fought in the “trenches’ together against colonial regimes and shared a common history with Swapo in Namibia, Frelimo in Mozambique and the MPLA in Angola.

He claimed western countries wanted to destroy Zanu-PF – and then deal with the ANC and other liberation movements to put surrogate parties in power, in order to retain control of resources.

Shifting attention to his homeland, Malema said SA was in desperate need of across-the-board transformation and fundamental reform, because the economy and even the judiciary and media were still “white-controlled”.

He said “white males” were dominating those areas and were even banning the “singing of liberation struggle songs”.

That, he said, showed democracy was too qualified in South Africa.

Malema said the ANC would not stop singing the “ayesab’amagwala, dubul’ ibhunu” (Shoot the Boer) song, despite a court ruling against it and were prepared to go to jail for it.

“The judiciary is still controlled by white males who are refusing to change.

“The economy is still controlled by white males who are refusing to change and the media is also still controlled by white males who are refusing to change,” Malema said.

“We can no longer sing liberation songs in South Africa because we will be arrested for undermining the courts. Now we have to go to Zimbabwe, Mozambique and other countries, like we did during exile days, to sing liberation struggle songs.”

“We will never retreat. If it means singing this song leads straight into jail, we are prepared to go there. They can never tell which song we must sing!”

Yesterday morning Malema visited Zimbabwe’s North Korean-built Heroes Acre, a burial ground for liberation struggle fighters, and a bombed house in Avondale suburb where ANC exiles lived.

He denounced political violence and claimed Zanu-PF would win free and fair elections if they were held in Zimbabwe.

He said Zimbabwe must defy sanctions like Cuba and “stand firm”.

He then launched a withering attack on the media, saying they could write what they wanted, and that he did not care. He said Zanu-PF youths should not care about what the media said.

“You, the youths of Zanu-PF, must defend the gains of the revolution. You must be focused. You must be militant, radical and resolute,” Malema said.

“We don’t care about what the imperialist media write. They can write what they want.

“We are not products of the media, but of the struggle.

“So let them write what they want to write. We don’t need a London newspaper to tell us who Mugabe is,” said Malema.

“We don’t need the so-called independent media to tell us who Zuma is. We know them.”

Malema chanted Mugabe’s and Zuma’s names repeatedly during his rousing address, and closed by singing Dubul’ ibhunu and Awuleth’ umshini wami, to hysterical cheers.

Radio Pretoria: Stil Broers…

Posted in Uncategorized on 5 April, 2010 by rudiprinsloo

Waarom?

“Ek gaan my afspraak met hom nakom.”

‘My broer se gesig is fyngekap’

Ventersdorp. – “My broer se gesig is fyngekap.

Eugène Terre’Blanche is vermoor.

Adéle Rautenbach, polisiewoordvoerder in Noordwes, gesê.

Terre’Blanche se selfoon is glo in hul besit gevind.

ANC staan steeds agter Malema

Ook me.

ANC planning Zimbabwe style land invasions after World Cup

Zimbabwean War Veterans and Robert Mugabe’s thugs forcing a white commercial farmer off his property

29 March, 2010 11:40:00

HARARE – South Africa’s ruling party ANC is planning Zimbabwean style land invasions after the FIFA 2010 World Cup, amid reports Zimbabwe’s Zanu PF and War Veterans Association will provide crucial support for the programme, sources in Zimbabwe said on Monday.

Controversial African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) President, Julius Malema, is set to visit Zimbabwe for a series of meetings with Zanu PF counterparts. The crucial meeting will go a long way in exchanging ideas and preparatory stages for both logistics and mobilisation for sporadic land invasions across the country.

A member of the Zanu PF security department told our reporter that the basis of Malema’s visit to Harare is a follow up to a secret discussion between President Mugabe and his South African counterpart Jacob Zuma, three weeks ago.

The source said when South African President Jacob Zuma visited Zimbabwe during the coalition talks between Zanu PF and the MDC, he discussed at length, matters ranging from the British media’s personal attacks on his private life during the recent visit to the United Kingdom and the need to expedite South African land reform.

It is at this stage that Mugabe converted Zuma into his camp, and the two leaders agreed to join hands in actively assisting each other in the land reform and indigenisation process.

This week, a high-level delegation in the South African security forces, intelligence and media with close links to the ruling party ANC are travelling to Zimbabwe and they will spend three months training at the Zimbabwe National Army’s Staff College.

Senior Zimbabwe National army officers who led Zimbabwe’s land invasions will train their South African counterparts and impart knowledge based on their experiences.

A source said, South African land invasion factor is the reason why Zimbabwean President Mugabe has identified Jabulani Sibanda as the prefered choice to lead the Zimbabwe War Veterans Association in the association’s reported power struggles.

Sibanda’s speaks Ndebele and this is an important factor in his abilities to communicate with South Africa’s ANC land invadors, the source said.
Zanu PF Youth League national secretary for administration Leslie Ncube said Malema was visiting Zimbabwe to discuss and share ideas on “youth empowerment and revolutionary tactics”.

“The ANCYL president will be arriving next week. It will be a three-day visit and other executive members of the ANC youth league will accompany him,” Ncube said.

The Zanu PF youth official said the ANC and his party have enjoyed cordial relationships that date back to the liberation struggle adding these ties would be further strengthened by Malema’s visit.

“We share the same revolutionary history and they (visiting delegates) are coming to learn from our agrarian reform and indigenisation.

“The ANC is about to expand its land reforms, and we will share advice and discuss how resources should be equitably distributed to the youth and also how they can benefit from natural resources such as mining,” Ncube said.

Speaking to South African media, Gugule Nkwinti, the Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform accused white farmers of scuttling the land reform programme by frustrating government’s willing buyer willing seller policy through inflating prices.

He warned South Africa risks sinking into chaos as the patience of new black farmers is running thin as evidenced by sporadic farm invasions.

“If South Africans who own land don’t recognise the reality on the ground and can no walk the mind with government in terms of what is proposed right now then in fact they are the ones who will be responsible for creating conditions of chaos which can be worse than what has been witnessed in Zimbabwe,” said Nkwinti.

Africa’s economic giant needs R 75 billion to acquire 80 million hectares of land by 2014 but this target will not be reached as national coffers are running dry as a result of a litany of service delivery issues that needs to be addressed such as a long housing back log, water and electricity deliveries to millions of households.

Nkwinti said the South African government is working on a policy aimed at addressing the land inequalities urging farm owners to be more flexible in land redistribution negotiations.

He said the new policy is about preventing going the disastrous way of distributing land like the one witnessed in Zimbabwe where President Robert Mugabe’s government forcibly took land from previous white owners in chaotic scenes that left many dead since the inception of the programme in 2000.

“This about preventing Zimbabwe,” said Nkwinti.

He did not elaborate on whether his government will consider amending the constitution to enable it to forcibly take land like what happened in their northern neighbours where the government had to pass legislation to change the constitution allowing it to compulsorily acquire land from white farmers.

Nkwinti said just like in Zimbabwe where about 4000 white farmers owned most of the country’s arable land, land in South Africa is concentrated in the hands of a few land owners, most of whom are foreigners.

“We have a major monopoly of land ownership in South Africa and we must break that monopoly,” said Nkwinti.

Nkwinti earlier this month told parliament that the government was adopting a “use it or lose it” policy to encourage increased production capacity but his weekend comments appear to be a shift towards a more radical policy.

Thousands of poor black South Africans, most of whom still live in abject poverty because of the apartheid era system are waiting for land promised at independence in 1994 and often repeated in campaign speeches by current President Jacob Zuma in his quest for political office last year.

Just like Zimbabwe, South Africa inherited an unjust land ownership system from the apartheid governments which parceled out all the best farm land to white farmers, leaving blacks to arid land not fit for agricultural purposes.

The South African government has in the past said it will not go it the Zimbabwe way and often move quickly to crush land related protests and attempts at invading farms owned by white farmers though it has largely been unable to stop farm murders but this time it appears it is starting to feel the people power.

Farm seizures are blamed for plunging Zimbabwe – once a net exporter of the staple maize grain – into severe food shortages since 2001 after black peasant farmers resettled on former white farms failed to maintain production because the government failed to support them with financial resources, inputs and skills training.

Posted in Uncategorized on 5 April, 2010 by rudiprinsloo

Maandag, 05 April 2010 01:58 Dan Roodt

Posted in Uncategorized on 4 April, 2010 by rudiprinsloo
