An elderly woman was on Friday morning seriously injured in a farm attack near Clocolan in the Eastern Free State, police said.
Spokesperson Superintendent Motarafi Ntepe said the owner of the farm, a Mr Collins, left his wife alone on the farm Upper Koppies Kraal on Friday morning.
While she was doing the washing, two men entered the house and hit her over the head with a sharp object.
When Collins returned home around 1pm, he saw a blood trail and found his wife on their bed, covered in blood. He contacted a neighbour who alerted police.
It was established that the attackers gained entrance to the house through the back door. A DVD player, a television decoder and a cellphone were reported missing.
Mrs Collins was rushed to the Clocolan Provincial Hospital from where she was transferred to a hospital in Bloemfontein. Her condition was not known.
