NUM sings banned boer song
Johannesburg – Delegates at the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) housing indaba on Thursday sang “shoot the boer” in defiance of a court ban.
Delegates from the union, government and some financial institutions were attending the indaba in Johannesburg to address housing problems facing mine workers.
They sang the song to usher NUM deputy general secretary Oupa Komane off the podium.
Komane had teased the delegates with the song before his address and sang only the “Ayesab’ amagwala” part in his closing.
This prompted delegates to sing the whole song uncensored.
Komane had briefed delegates on the state of affairs of housing for mine workers.
The South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg recently banned the song Ayesab’ amagwala on the basis that it was inciting violence.
